2-Story Building collapses in Lagos, inhabitants escaped uninjured

Many people on Ago-Palace Way near Okota Lagos state have reportedly escaped unharmed after the partial collapse of a two-story building in the area.

Unlike Ebute-Meta, where many people were trapped on Sunday, all residents of the Ago Palace Way building are said to have evacuated the site two hours before the collapse.

Reports from the Axis said clear signs of a building collapse were noticed before residents rushed out of the building to avoid being trapped.

The incident happened on Chris Igadi Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, but emergency operations, which began immediately, are said to have lasted until dawn.

The Secretary of State of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident and said that there was no casualty during the incident, adding that the site of the collapsed structure had been cordoned off and turned over to the Lagos State Building Control Authority (LASBCA).

He said,

"Upon arrival, information gathered from residents revealed that the building was signalling several hours before the collapse.

Fortunately, no one was trapped as all occupants evacuated the area when signs began two hours before the collapse.

"A people count has been taken to ensure there are no missing residents and what remains of the building has been cordoned off.

“The operation ended at around 5:23 am. The site will be handed over to LABSCA and the Ministry of Spatial Planning for further study.”
