2022 African Cycling Championship: South Africa tops medal table

South Africa currently leads the medals table with 20 medals on day two of the ongoing African Track Cycling Championships.

The 2022 African Track Cycling Championships began on July 14 and will end on Sunday at Abuja's Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

By the end of the second day of the championship, South Africa had 10 gold, five silver and five bronze medals.

Egypt followed with 15 medals, consisting of seven gold, four silver and four bronze medals, while Nigeria and Algeria lagged with nine medals each.

Team Nigeria has two golds, five silvers and two bronzes, while Algeria has two golds, three silvers and four bronzes.

Morocco had six medals one gold, three silver and two bronze, while Ivory Coast and the Republic of Benin each had one bronze medal.

The competition continues with Day 3 events featuring the Women's, Men's and Junior Sprint categories, Omnium categories one through four, Individual Pursuit and Madison 30K.

A total of 15 countries take part in the championship, which includes 11 different disciplines: sprint, team sprint, time trial (1km/500m), keirin, team pursuit.

Others include Individual Pursuit, Scratch, Elimination, Omnium, Points Race, and Madison for the Women's, Men's, and Junior categories.
