2023 POLITICS: Education minister, Emeka Nwajiuba submits his resignation

Presidency 2023: Secretary of Education Emeka Nwajiuba resigns

This was confirmed when President Muhammadu Buhari ordered all cabinet members interested in running in the 2023 general election to leave his government.

The development excited Buhari as he also credited the minister for defying the odds to quit.

According to  DAILY POST, the Education minister Nwajiuba had selected expressions of interest and nomination forms from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest for the presidency at N100 million.

In an apparent move to avoid litigation that could jeopardize APC candidates' chances in the upcoming election, Buhari had ordered all Federal Executive Council (FEC) members running for electoral office to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday should be May 16, 2022.

As the FEC meeting dragged on, Buhari had highlighted Nwajiuba for defying the odds to quit to avoid conflicts of interest, saying, "I expect other members of this council who want to be president to resign with immediate effect." "

Other ministers expected to follow suit are Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya, all of whom have joined the race for the presidency on the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform.

Others include Attorney General and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami, who is trying to challenge Kebbi state governor, Mines and Steel Minister Uche Ogar, who is running for governor in Abia state, and Women's Affairs Minister Paulline Tallen , who declared her ambition to run for Senator in Plateau State.

The policy may not be unrelated to the Court of Appeal's ruling overturning a previous ruling against Section 84(12) of the Elections Act 2022.
