2023 POLITICS: Governor Akeredolu sites challenges Tinubu is facing in choosing a running mate
Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has revealed what All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is going through in his quest to find a substantive candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
The governor pointed out that there were so many factors to consider when choosing Tinubu's running mate, which made things a bit difficult for the former Lagos state governor.
Without mentioning the issue of religion, which has been a major part of the public debate among Nigerians, Governor Akeredolu's argument focused on zone, loyalty and the area with the highest votes as he listed the factors contributing to the APC flag bearer caused to rack your brains.
Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today program Monday night, the governor said: "The circumstance that Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has now found is a major cause of what I call ground-wetting. For example, he will not pick from the south. So he has to make a choice from the north.
Because he is from the south he will not choose from the southeast or south-south, because he is from the southwest he must choose from the north.
“And when you look at the North, a lot of factors will have to come into play. Some will say ‘pick from North West’ But North West, that’s where the President now comes from.
"Will they have a second bite, be it as a vice or something? Some will argue, "Why not vote from the Northeast?" That's a factor to consider.
"Others may argue, 'Why not vote from North Central?' So another factor to consider is 'okay, where do you get votes?'
"So many factors, but given the circumstances, I think he's likely to stay with North Central and North East, probably because there are so many factors that can come into play.
"So when you decide who you pick at the end of the day, you have to look at loyalty. Will this person be loyal or will they be there to undermine you? These are issues that you need to consider very seriously.â€
