2023 Presidency: Kwankwaso declares why he won't be anyone's running mate
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, said on Saturday that accepting to become a running mate of a presidential candidate would lead to the collapse of the NNPP.
Kwankwaso, who was in Gombe state to inaugurate the NNPP's state office and meet with elected party members, made the announcement in an interview with journalists.
The former Kano state governor said that with the fame the NNPP has achieved in its short span of time, anything short of his presidency would spell the collapse of the NNPP.
Kwankwaso also confirmed that his party had been in talks with Labor Party over a possible merger, but the main issue hampering progress was who would become the presidential candidate.
He said: "It emerged from the discussion with the Labor Party that the main question was who would become President if the parties merge.
"Ultimately, some of our representatives felt that there should be a criterion based on age, qualifications, positions held, performance and so on."
“Of course the other side wouldn't want that. Most people from there think that's where the President has to go (Southeast)."
“Now if I decide to be the vice presidential nominee for anyone in this country; The NNPP will collapse because the party is based on what we have built over the past thirty years."
“I was a civil servant for seventeen years; We are talking about 47 years of very serious hard work that NNPP now rarely keeps.â€
