21 dead as heavy rain causes landslides, flooding in Tajikistan
In Tajikistan, the latest natural calamity to affect the mountainous Central Asian nation, three days of torrential rains have resulted in flooding, landslides, and mudflows, claiming at least 21 lives.
According to a spokeswoman for the Committee for Emergency Situations, "there are 21 dead," an increase from the 13 reported fatalities on Monday.
The fatalities occurred close to the capital, Dushanbe, in three towns in central Tajikistan.
Social media sites have posted pictures and videos of cars on flooded and demolished roadways.
The possibility of landslides was still significant, according to the administration, and it advised people to exercise caution, especially near Tajikistan's mountains.
Raimundas Karoblis, the ambassador of the European Union to the nation, has sent his sympathies to the victims' families.
Tajikistan's government has received backing from the governments of Iran and other nations.
The nation is susceptible to natural disasters. Numerous avalanches, landslides, and rockfalls struck Upper Badakhshan in February. This autonomous territory is located in the south of the country and borders Afghanistan, China, and Kyrgyzstan.
