12-year-old boy's eye gouged out in Bauchi state
Authorities in the Bauchi state of northern Nigeria say they are looking into a gruesome attack on a 12-year-old child who was discovered with one of his eyeballs gouged out.
According to a police statement, the Islamic school student was taken by two strangers on a motorcycle to the outskirts of Kafin-Madaki village, where his attacker "forcefully took" out his right eye and "left him in his pool of blood."
The victim eventually made it back to the town, where he was found, saved, and sent to a hospital. According to authorities, the suspects are currently at large.
Although the motive for the boy's targeting is yet unknown, there have been stories in recent years of human body parts being taken for use in witchcraft.
Another teen was attacked earlier this year and had both of his eyes gouged out in Bauchi state.
