45-year-old Indonesian man kills neighbour
After being asked why he was not married, a 45-year-old Indonesian man is said to have slain his 60-year-old neighbour. According to the Straits Times, the incident happened on July 29 in the South Tapanuli region of North Sumatra.
Asgim Irianto was the victim's identity, according to Assistant Police Commissioner Maria Marpaung. Irianto's wife claimed that Siregar suddenly attacked Irianto after showing up at their house brandishing a piece of wood.
Parlindungan Siregar, the suspected attacker, apparently became more and more irritated with Irianto's incessant enquiries about his marital status.
The victim ran into the street, but Siregar caught up to him and struck him in the head fatally. Siregar persisted in his attack even after Irianto went down, until other locals stepped in.
Irianto was taken to the hospital by emergency personnel, but he passed away while in transit. Soon after the attack, Siregar was taken into custody.
Authorities believe that Siregar's annoyance at Irianto's persistent questions over his marital status was a contributing factor in the incident. The issue is still being looked into.
