542 stranded Nigerians in UAE evacuated by FG
The Federal Government said on Sunday that a total of 542 stranded Nigerians had been rescued from the United Arab Emirates through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The commission announced this on Twitter using the handle @nidcom gov.
“A total of 542 stranded Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates evacuated by the Federal Government arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on board the @MaxAirLtd Charted flight.
“The plane touched down at 4:29 am today, October 23, 2022. The evacuees consisted of 79 males, 460 females and three infants,“ the commission made this known in a tweet.
According to The PUNCH, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of NIDCOM, stated in August that the government would evacuate the trapped Nigerians in the middle eastern nation.
The head of NIDCOM observed that some of the Nigerians profiled in the UAE did not have passports or other forms of identification while speaking at a press conference in Abuja.
The number of harassment incidents reported by Nigerians in the UAE has increased recently.
The UAE government recently sentenced a young woman just known as Dun ChiChi to one year in prison.
The woman had shared images of abuse by UAE immigration authorities on her Twitter profile.
