68 killed in Nepal's airplane crash
Following a plane disaster in Nepal on Sunday morning, at least 66 people have perished.
According to Al Jazeera, the disaster occurred as the aircraft was traveling from Kathmandu, the country's capital, to Pokhara, 200 kilometers to the west.
According to Yeti Airlines' Sudarshan Bartaula, the twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft was carrying 72 passengers, including four staff members.
According to a Nepal police spokesperson who spoke to Al Jazeera, 66 remains have so far been removed from the scene, and no survivors have been discovered.
An emergency cabinet meeting has been summoned, according to a statement from the government of Nepal.
“I am deeply saddened by the sad and tragic accident of Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72 which was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara with passengers,†he posted on Twitter.
According to a local official named Gurudutta Dhakal, emergency personnel have already arrived at the scene of the incident and are working to put out the fire.
However, the large number of people present at the crash site has made the current rescue effort challenging. They are being pushed to depart by the rescue teams.
