Abducted children found in an underground church chamber in Ondo
More than 50 children have been rescued from an underground dwelling in a church in the town of Ondo, Ond state. The children had been kidnapped and held in the underground cells.
The pastor of the church and other accomplices were arrested by the police in the city.
The kidnapped children were featured in a viral video that was trending on social media.
They were seen in a police squad car, which took them to the police station.
A voice could be heard in the video saying: “Children kidnapped were found in the underground cell of a church in the Valentino neighbourhood of Ondo.
"The pastor and some members of the church were arrested and were also in the police patrol car."
State police command spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami confirmed the discovery by police detectives.
Odunlam said the victims were taken to the command headquarters in Akure.
According to her, "I don't have the details yet, but they're taking the casualties to headquarters.
"I will give you the details as soon as I receive them from the DPO."
