Abuja American School refunds Yahaya Bello's $760,000 to EFCC
The reimbursement of $760,000 that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello paid as advanced school fees for his children at the American International School, Abuja, has been validated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
On Friday, our correspondent in Abuja received confirmation of the development from Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson.
“The school has refunded the entire $ 760, 000 to the EFCC’s recovery account,” he said.
In order to receive a refund of the money paid for the children of the former governor, the American International School of Abuja had earlier requested that the EFCC furnish “authentic banking data."
Bello is accused of using funds from the Kogi State Government to pay $720,000 in advance for the education of five of his children.
The kids attend the school and are enrolled in Grades 2 through 8. In an effort to apprehend Bello regarding an alleged N80.2 billion scam, EFCC agents besieged his Abuja home on April 17.
Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi, reportedly arrived at the residence while the operatives were there and snatched Bello out.
The school stated in a letter to the EFCC's Lagos Zonal Commander that $845,852 in tuition has been paid "since the 7th of September 2021 to date."
AISA stated that since it had already subtracted educational services already provided, the amount to be reimbursed is $760,910.
