Abuja residents to experience power outage Saturday, Sunday
Due to necessary repair at two crucial transmission substations, Abuja residents will endure brief power outages this weekend, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has formally notified the public.
These planned works are intended to improve the operational efficiency and dependability of the electrical infrastructure in the impacted areas, according to a statement issued on Saturday, December 28, 2024 by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN.
The maintenance plan calls for TCN engineers to perform technical servicing on a 60MVA power transformer and related switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation on Saturday, 28 December from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Due to this operation, Gwagwalada and the nearby areas would have to experience a four-hour power outage. Another round of maintenance will be performed at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. One of the facility's 60MVA power transformers will need to be serviced during this activity.
Wuye, the EFCC headquarters, the Federal Medical Centre, the Coca-Cola factory, the Idu Railway Station, the Citec Estate, and Life Camp are among the places that may be impacted by the power outage.
Ndidi Mbah emphasized that these maintenance activities are critical for sustaining the integrity of the power grid and preventing potential system failures. “The scheduled downtime is a necessary step to ensure the continued reliability of our power equipment. These proactive measures will minimize the likelihood of unplanned disruptions and enhance the quality of electricity supply to the public,” she explained.
