Accidents kill one, injure three in Ogun

Accidents that happened on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway on Sunday and Monday left one person dead and three others with various degrees of injuries.

According to information obtained by Punch Metro, the first accident happened on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway in the Conoil region, and the second accident occurred on the same motorway in the Makun area.

Ismail Akinola, an eyewitness who saw the second accident, claimed that drivers' inattentiveness was what caused the several collisions.

He said, “What happened was that the truck carrying container wanted to switch lanes without paying attention to the tipper vehicle beside it. The tipper on sighting the truck tried to avoid a collision but it was too late and therefore resulted in multiple collisions. I think it is due to lack of concentration on the part of the drivers.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accidents and stated that seven people were involved in various accidents along the motorway, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

Okpe said, “I can confirm that one person died in an accident around Conoil axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which was caused by speeding and loss of control. The accident which involved a Man-diesel truck with registration number LSR472XA, happened around 1825hrs yesterday.

“Also, three persons were injured in an accident involving three vehicles along the Makun area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. A total of six persons were involved in this accident that happened early this morning.

“It involved a Long Truck with registration number T-13690LA, a Tipper truck with registration number AAA136YC and a Cabstar vehicle.”

She observed that although the injured victims were transported to a hospital for treatment, the deceased's corpses were placed at the mortuary.

“The body of the dead person has been deposited at the Idera morgue in Sagamu while the injured persons have been taken to hospital for treatment”, she concluded.
