Adeleke maintains that he will defend his victory
Ademola Adeleke, the incoming governor of Osun, has committed to maintain and defend his election victory before the election petition tribunal.
He made this statement as he insisted that his election as governor-elect was fully in accordance with the law and the will of the people.
Recall that on Friday, the governor of Osun State and the All Progressives Congress filed a case at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo to contest Senator Ademola Adeleke's election victory.
On Thursday, Gboyega Famodun, the party's chairman, made a hint that the APC was prepared to take the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its candidate to the Election Petition Tribunal.
The July 16th election, according to Adeleke's statement released by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed on Saturday, was one of the most transparent in recent Nigerian history.
Adeleke further promised to protect and uphold the legitimacy of the people's freely given mandate in the face of enormous difficulties.
The declaration stated that "the PDP legal team is responding to the file in the appropriate manner. I urge all of my supporters—at home and abroad—to maintain their composure because this holy victory cannot be taken by force.
"I implore the decent people of Osun State to maintain their composure after voting overwhelmingly against terrible government. We are taking the necessary steps to uphold their authority. Given that this election is internationally recognized as a significant improvement in electoral transparency and integrity, we will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the court upholds our victory.
We also want to reaffirm our belief in the legal system as a bulwark of justice and optimism. The statement added, "We have absolute faith in God that this election petition will result in yet another historic win for us and the tenacious people of Osun state.
