AFDB appoints new Vice President
Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, a Cameroonian, has been appointed vice president of the African Development Bank's complex for regional development, integration, and business delivery.
The appointment will be in place starting on April 1, 2023.
The new hire, according to the bank, is a senior executive with close to 31 years of experience who will provide technical, managerial, and strategic knowledge and leadership in the bank's capital markets, treasury, asset management, and product development.
She served as the complex's Acting Vice President and Director General of the Bank's Business Development and Delivery Office for the West Africa Area prior to her appointment.
In order to position the African Development Bank as the "Solutions Bank," Mrs. Akin-Olugbade oversaw the creation and execution of transformative strategies, programs, and transactions.
She was involved in the institution's complete complexity of loan and non-lending operations in middle-income and low-income nations while working with the largest team of country managers there. They have comprised innovative and complicated cross-border businesses as well as transitional nations.
In order to create a major, life-changing development effect, she led the rapid delivery of outcomes on the $9 billion West Africa portfolio, partnering with governments, the private sector, regional economic communities, and non-state actors.
The new vice president began working for the bank in 1991 as a financial assistant in the trading room of its Treasury Department, where she remained until 1993 when she was promoted to investment officer.
From 1993 to 1997, she managed the Bank's assets in global capital markets in that capacity.
She then rose to the position of principal financial analyst in the Financial Technical Services Division and was in charge of overseeing the financial solutions for clients all over the continent.
She held that role until 2010, having been named Manager of the Bank's Financial Technical Services Division in 2008.
She handled the creation of new products, client financial solutions, and risk management services in that capacity. She also served as the team leader for the 2010 publication of the African Fixed Income and Derivatives Handbook.
