Aiyedatiwa affirms N35,000 monthly wage award for Ondo staff in tertiary institutions
The governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has authorised the payment of a N35,000 monthly wage award to employees of tertiary institutions controlled by the state.
According to Aiyedatiwa, the wage award would start to be paid out this month (June 2024) and last for six months.
The governor gave his permission in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, after meeting with the leaders of the tertiary institutions' workers' unions and institutions last week in Akure.
According to Adeniyan, the university employees staged a protest recently because they were not included in the N35,000 monthly wage award that was given to state civil officers for the period of November 2023 to April 2024.
He said, “The state government had earlier stated that the wage award for the school workers was expected to be paid from the subvention of the tertiary institutions which had been increased in recent months.
“However, the inability of the tertiary institutions to pay the award from their subvention necessitated the intervention of the Governor.
“The reduction of the wage award for civil servants from N35,000 to N15,000 was to enable the government to get enough resources to pay the wage award for workers of the tertiary institutions.
“The pensioners in the State are also receiving N10,000 monthly wage awards.”
