Aiyedatiwa wins Ondo APC ticket, others protest

The All Progressives Congress, which is now in power in the state, had a governorship primary on Saturday and Sunday, with Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State, emerging  victorious.

Aiyedatiwa was clearly ahead as of the time this story was filed, but the primary election committee chairman and Kogi State governor, Mr. Usman Ododo, was still announcing the poll's results.

Results from 15 of the state's 18 local government areas had been made public as of the time this report was filed, and Aiyedatiwa had won all 15.

From the 15 LGAs that have been declared so far, Aiyedatiwa has received 42,035 votes, according to the head of the election commission.

The committee had continued its brief break as of 10:52 p.m., when this report was filed. A total of 171, 922 votes were up for grabs between the 16 APC candidates.

Numerous APC members in the state protested against the primary's conduct earlier on Sunday in the streets of Akure, the state capital.

The demonstrators claimed that Governor Ododo's primary election committee had disregarded party rules.

The demonstrators voiced their dissatisfaction with the way the state's governorship primary was conducted as they also invaded the APC's state secretariat in Akure.

They allegedly supported a few candidates for governor who took part in the primary but were unsuccessful.
