Akeredolu cancels June 12 celebration
 Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has cancelled this year's Democracy Day celebrations in the state to honour those who lost their lives in a terrorist attack on worshipers at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, on Sunday. Akeredolu declared this in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle on Saturday, saying the cancellation was to allow the Ondo people to mourn the deceased. The state government announced a new number of victims of the terrorist attack on believers in the church on Wednesday.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Banji Ajaka said in a statement at midnight Tuesday the death toll was 127, while 40 had been confirmed dead. The Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Jude Arogundade, had previously said the church had recorded 38 deaths. “The situation report at midnight Tuesday 7/6/22 at St. Louis Hospital, Owo, 39 people involved and 13 deaths (confirmed). At the Owo Federal Hospital, the total number of people involved is 84 and the number of bodies in the FMC morgue is 25; female, 17 and eight male," Ajaka said in a statement. “In honour of the victims of the terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the Ondo State Government cancelled this year's June 12 celebration. "The cancellation is intended to allow the people of Ondo State to mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack," Akeredolu tweeted on Saturday.
