Akeredolu transmits power to deputy Aiyedatiwa
Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, turned over leadership to his deputy Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa Friday after going on a 21-day medical leave.
This was said by Akeredolu in a letter to the Ondo State House of Assembly. For a few weeks, there had been whispers that the governor was ill.
Opposition groups and members of the state's civil society have urged Governor Akeredolu to delegate authority to his deputy in order to ensure the efficient operation of the government.
However, the Ondo State House of Assembly authorized his medical leave after receiving the governor's letter. The governor took a 21-day leave of absence for medical treatment overseas beginning on June 7, 2023, and ending on July 6, 2023, according to Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, made this announcement in Akure, the state capital.
The letter states that due to the public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (28 and 29 June 2023) the leave, which started on June 7, continues until July 6, 2023.
The governor promised that he would resume on July 6, 2023, after giving his deputy, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the authority to serve in that capacity while he was away.
The governor was wished a swift recovery and a happy holiday by the speaker, who praised him as a supporter of the rule of law and a lover of peace.
