Amber Heard declares she will appeal verdict after losing to ex-husband Johnny Depp
Amber Heard has more to say about her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The Aquaman bombshell, 36, announced on Friday her decision to appeal the verdict that proclaimed she defamed Johnny Depp.
"As established in yesterday's congressional hearings, you don't ask for a pardon when you're innocent," a spokesman for Heard told the Los Angeles Times. "And you don't refuse to appeal when you know you're right."
The news comes after lawyers for Johnny, 59, and Amber failed to reach an agreement before the final verdict was issued. The announcement didn't come as a surprise — Amber's rep said as early as June 2 that she already plans to appeal the guilty verdict. Her attorney, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, admitted that the actress cannot pay the $10 million fine she was faced with for writing a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post in which Johnny claims strongly insinuated that he molested her.
Meanwhile, Amber sat down with Savannah Guthrie for a two-part Dateline interview that ended June 17. In it, she dropped bombshells, including the fact that she still loves her ex-husband and handed her "years' worth of therapist notes that she claims prove physical abuse.
There's a binder full of year-long notes from 2011 from the beginning of my relationship that was made by my doctor to who I reported the abuse," Heard told Savannah. She also said she hopes to move forward, despite Johnny even suing her in a UK court after his devastating loss to The Sun in 2020. "Taking all the evidence together, I accept that she was the victim of sustained and multiple attacks by Mr Depp in Australia," said Mr Justice Nicol, who led the case.
"I'm looking forward to living my life and hopefully I have a long one ahead of me," Amber told Dateline. "And I'm going to keep going through this with my chin up." The actress is also reportedly considering the possibility of writing a book about the relationship.
