Amber Heard files for bankruptcy following verdict
Following the trial against her ex-husband Jonny Depp, Amber Heard's financial situation is not good at all. However, the actress shocked everyone by declaring bankruptcy after discovering she was unable to pay the Pirates of the Caribbean actor's court fine.
Throughout the several weeks of the proceedings, social media was swamped with recordings, commentary, and even live streams of the testimony provided by both performers.
The jury ruled that Heard was in charge of Johnny Depp's $10 million in damages after the trial was over. Depp would also have to make a $2 million damage payment.
After the judge made their ruling, the Aquaman actress' legal team told the court that she would not be able to pay back the debt.
Heard is currently engaged in a legal struggle to discover ways to avoid paying the $10 million. According to reports, she appealed the jury's decision to get the judgment lowered.
The artist's representation released the following statement: "We feel the court made mistakes that prevented a fair and First Amendment-compliant verdict. We are appealing the judgment as a result.
On July 20, Amber Heard filed for bankruptcy, then on July 21, she appealed to the Commonwealth of Virginia. The 35-year-old lady would be asking for the verdict to be declared null and void due to a lack of resources.
In response, Johnny Depps’ team said, “The verdict speaks for itself, and Mr Depp believes this is a time for both parties to move on with their lives and get back on their feet. But if Ms Heard is determined to continue the litigation by appealing the verdict, Mr Depp will file a concurrent appeal to ensure that the Court of Appeals considers the full record and all relevant legal issues.â€
