American actor James McCaffrey dies at 65
James McCaffrey, who voiced "Max Payne" in the popular video game franchise and starred in television shows like "Rescue Me," has departed from this life.
The 65-year-old New Yorker's passing was revealed on Monday by David Elliot, McCaffrey's talent representative.
The Hollywood Reporter was notified by his spouse, the actress Rochelle Bostrom, that he passed away at home in Larchmont, New York, following a battle with myeloma, a cancer that impacts white blood cells.
Another actor from New York and star of "Entourage," Kevin Dillon, was one of many who took to social media to honour McCaffrey.
“#rip James McCaffrey we were lucky to have known you,†he wrote Sunday in an Instagram post that included a photo of the two.
Throughout his 35-year career, McCaffrey appeared in films and television shows, including "Blue Bloods" and "Suits."
During the seven-season run of the FX drama "Rescue Me," which concluded in 2011, he played a New York City firefighter who was killed on September 11 and made an appearance alongside Denis Leary's firefighting main character.
In the eponymous video game series released in the early 2000s, McCaffrey was also well-known for providing the voice of Max Payne, a former NYPD officer turned vigilante following the murder of his family.
“Trained at the Actor’s Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles,†Elliot wrote in a message.
Along with his wife, McCaffrey is survived by his daughter Tiernan McCaffrey and other family members.
