Anambra community celebrates as it gets first pipe-borne water
The first pipe-borne water supply to ever arrive in the historic Olumbanasa hamlet in Anambra West Local Government Area, Anambra State, has left the inhabitants thrilled.
On Wednesday, people of all ages flocked to the water delivery facilities to celebrate the arrival of clean water. They called the initiative "unexpected" and "historic," describing it as a major turning point for the neighbourhood.
Water tanks were erected at strategic points across the village to facilitate easy access for the locals to the state-built water supply.
Since it is mostly accessed via the River Niger, Olumbanasa, a riverine village in the stream of Anambra West LGA, has remained unreachable. In November 2023, the "inaccessible" town was visited by state governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo via speedboat.
Upon reaching the community crossing the River Niger with Denis Isizoh, the Catholic Bishop of Aguleri, Soludo, who had before labelled the community as "unreachable," expressed his satisfaction during the visit.
“It was a testament to my steadfast commitment to reach every nook and cranny, every soul of our beloved Anambra State.
“The journey was also a personal milestone as it marked my first time being transported in a Keke through the rural areas. This experience was more than just a thrilling ride, it allowed me a glimpse into the everyday life of our valued Anambra citizens.
“Olumbanasa, a place once considered unreachable by my predecessors, was made accessible due to your unwavering faith and trust in my leadership. This visit, unprecedented in the annals of Anambra State, represents a historic achievement, a step no Governor before me has taken,” the governor said.
Speaking at the water supply opening, a number of locals conveyed their appreciation to the state administration for thinking it appropriate to provide them with water via pipes.
