Anambra doctors on strike over colleague's abduction
On Thursday, the Nigeria Medical Association, Anambra State Branch, gave its members the order to immediately cease providing services in all public and private institutions within the state.
The organisation announced this at the conclusion of its emergency general meeting on Thursday, using a statement signed by its secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, and chairman, Dr. Princeston Okam.
The decision, according to the statement, was issued in response to the August 15 kidnapping of their colleague, Dr. Stephen Ezeh, who is currently being held captive.
Remember how the doctors had threatened to close all of their locations in the state on August 19 if Ezeh was not released from custody within 48 hours?
Despite his health issues, the organisation voiced dismay that 48 hours had passed since the ultimatum and the plea to the state government, and Ezeh was still in the hands of his abductors.
