Anambra nurse arrested for physically abusing 13-year-old nephew with knife
Security personnel in Anambra State have detained a 38-year-old nurse named Amarachukwu Nzekwe for abusing her 13-year-old nephew with a hot clothes iron.
The media assistant to the state commissioner for women's affairs and social welfare, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, revealed this in a press release on Wednesday.
After the incident went viral on social media, security personnel worked with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to apprehend the suspect, a resident of Ezinifite in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
She claimed during questioning that she did not punish her nephew until he had stolen from her.
“The perpetrator, Nzekwe, a native of Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, said she only disciplined her nephew after he stole from her.
“According to the perpetrator, the weapon used in inflicting the injury on the 13-year-old was a well-heated laundry iron, after which she locked him up at home without any proper medication and attention.”
Following the boy's rescue, Ify Obinabo, the Women Affairs Commissioner—who was clearly upset about the whole thing—reacted by promising that the young child would receive justice.
Obinabo continued by admonishing potential criminals to stop immediately or face consequences since the state would not stand for such heinous deeds.
As of the publication of this article, the suspect had been turned over to the police, who had then filed charges and opened a formal investigation.
