The police force in Adamawa State reports that 44 people have been detained in connection with the looting of numerous food stores and warehouses on Sunday afternoon in the state's capital, Yola.
Suleiman Nguroje, the police spokesperson, claimed that a combined team of security personnel had taken control of the situation.
The police issued a warning that anyone detected stirring up trouble in the state's capital or nearby cities will face consequences.
“Presently, the joint security operatives had arrested 44 suspects from different locations across the state found demonstrating.
“Already investigation into the matter has commenced, recoveries had been made from the arrested miscreants.
“Items like water pumps and seeds looted from the stores were seized from the suspects. Our security men are doing well; they have cordoned up all the important places in the state capitalâ€, Mr Nguroje explained.
The police spokesperson claims that after sending out a large number of security officers promptly to head off the scenario, security authorities were able to successfully disperse the looters.
The police command praised the law-abiding citizenry for adhering to the state government's 24-hour curfew.
He declared that those detained for inciting trouble and looting will face armed robbery charges.
As previously reported, the governor of Adamawa State imposed a 24-hour curfew on the entire state after some citizens broke into both publicly and privately held food stores.
According to witnesses, the looters expressed difficulties as a result of the elimination of the petrol subsidy and the high cost of food.
Along with food, people were also observed carrying mattresses, generator sets, and other non-food items, which were allegedly taken from privately-held establishments, according to a local man named Manu Haruna.
