Anambra police arrest gunman in hotel, recover arms
The Anambra State Police Command's surveillance officers have apprehended a lone gunman at a well-known hotel (name withheld) in Awka, the state's capital.
The suspect was detained after police officers noticed his strange movements at the hotel, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police.
Ikenga said, “The operatives, who observed the suspect prowling around the premises on July 20, 2023, accosted him and conducted a search on his person.
“One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.
“The suspect, who gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.â€
He further said that after the inquiry is finished, the suspect will be charged in court.
