Anambra rescues thirteen children from traffickers
Thirteen children were saved by the Anambra State Government from the grasp of alleged child traffickers in Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
A middle-aged lady accused of leading a child trafficking cartel was also taken into custody as a result of the operation, which was conducted by the state's Ministry of Women Affairs in coordination with the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade.
In a statement released on Saturday, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the state's media assistant for the commissioner of women's affairs and social welfare, revealed this information and named the suspect as Umuzumbala, Umuzu Otolo Nnewi resident Angela Okechukwu.
The team confiscated fictitious documents that were allegedly utilised in the trafficking operations, the statement said.
The two to twelve-year-old rescued youngsters were discovered to be undernourished, deprived of an education, and living in substandard conditions.
According to investigations, the suspect reportedly adopted the children and sold them to others all throughout the nation. Speaking about the incident, Celestine Anere, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, stated that Okechukwu and a few of her associates had been arrested.
He reiterated the government's commitment to putting an end to illegal activity in the state and called the health circumstances of the children extremely concerning.
