Apple Airpods Pro 2 on its way- real wireless earbuds

The long-awaited successor to Apple's AirPods Pro is on the way. The cleverly named AirPods Pro 2, the second generation of Apple's best wireless earbuds, will launch in the fall with a new design, better audio quality, and maybe some health info too.

So says Bloomberg's well-informed Apple watcher Mark Gurman in his latest Power-On newsletter.

Gurman also reports that my beloved AirPods Max are getting a midlife refresh this year, but don't expect any significant new features aside from a few new colour options. That means now's a really good time to invest in a pair if you've already thought about it: unless you're craving a different colour, the current range is heavily discounted, meaning you're paying nothing close to the RRP and you don't have to worry about a significantly better model coming out in a few months.

This month is proving to be an excellent month for high-end headphone fans: there are lots of new models from some of the biggest names in audio tech. And while that's great for us, the consumer, it's going to mean incredibly stiff competition for the AirPods Pro 2 when they do launch. AirPods Pro 2 certainly have to compete in terms of high-end true wireless earbud technology or they don't end up looking as professional.
