ASSU, Taraba University chapter declares indefinite strike
On Friday, the Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced a comprehensive and ongoing strike action.
The move came after the state branch of ASUU received national clearance to begin a strike to enforce its demands, and after the state government refuted charges that it owes workers' salaries.
According to the Union, the government's failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, staff members' fractional salary, and an unresolved staff pension and gratuity system are the main causes of the strike action.
The institution's failure to implement agreements and perimeter fence are among the additional causes of the industrial action, according to Mr. Samuel Shitaa, the Taraba State University ASUU Chairman.
Bala Dan-Abu, the special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, responded to ASUU's action by claiming that the departing governor owes no workers' pay in a press release on Friday.
