At least 55 kidnapped as bandits ambush Katsina wedding train
Suspected bandits are thought to have abducted no less than fifty-five wedding guests who were reportedly taking a bride home along the Damari town in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident happened on Thursday at approximately 9 p.m., a resident verified on Friday.
The insider went on to say that in the hastily organised attempt to save the victims, three volunteer local security guards were killed.
“Most of those the hoodlums attacked and abducted were those who were already crowded and riding in an open van called canter vehicle.
“The victims were initially over 70, mostly friends to the bride, in which several others escaped after jumping off the moving canter van when the terrorists hijacked the van,†he said.
Security issues plague the Sabuwa region, according to information obtained by PUNCH Online.
There have been bandits in the local government region, along with their often-formative informant accomplices.
Alhaji Basiru Musa, the chairman of the Dandume Local Government Area, affirmed the report.
Although there have been unsubstantiated rumours that some abducted women have escaped, the chairman has pledged to investigate and offer updates.
He explained that even though the women were from Dandume, at around nine o'clock at night, the bandits stopped them as they were leaving Sabuwa Local Government Area.
In Katsina State, two local government districts that are severely plagued by bandits are Sabuwa and Dandume.
