Atiku commends Justice Tanko as he resigns as the Chief Justice of Nigeria
People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has responded to Justice Tanko Muhammad's resignation as Nigeria's Chief Justice. Judge Tanko resigned from office on Monday over reported health issues.
Subsequently, President Muhammadu Buhari swore in Judge Olukayode Ariwoola as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.
In response, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, applauded Justice Tanko for his decision and commended him for his services to the nation.
In a post on his social media handles, Atiku also wished incumbent CJN, Justice Olukayode, every success in his new post.
Atiku wrote: “Judge Tanko Muhammad's decision to resign as Chief Justice of Nigeria is commendable. I wish him well, even as I commend him for his actions and service to the nation.
“I wish the newly sworn in-office acting CJN, Judge Olukayode Ariowoola, every success in his stepping up to fill the void and assure him of my commitment to push the limits of judicial independence and the promotion of separation of powers as the bedrock of deepening democracy and development ".
