Atiku says he'll reactivate ECOMOG to tackle insecurity

In order to combat the country's ongoing insecurity, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential nominee has promised to restart the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) if elected president of Nigeria in 2023.

This was said by Atiku during a business breakfast event on Friday in Abuja with the theme "Nigeria's Time to Recover."

The former vice president claims that the ECOMOG will make sure that Nigeria's borders are adequately patrolled to prevent international terrorists and other criminals from entering and upsetting the calm in the country.

The PDP presidential candidate also discussed the document on the Niger Delta Ministry's execution, claiming that it was flawed.

When he was vice president under President Olusegun Obasanjo, the strategy, according to him, was created to make sure that the resources belonging to the Niger Delta's residents were used effectively.

If elected in 2023, Atiku promised those in attendance that the Ministry of Niger Delta would be located in the Niger Delta region and that he would make sure the ministry took care of the development of the region's infrastructure needs.

He further pledged that, if elected president, he would ensure that the area has well-funded, fully functional educational facilities.

Small and medium business owners, agricultural entrepreneurs, and technology experts were present at the gathering.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the Director General of the Atiku Campaign Council, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, as well as other members of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, were also in attendance.
