Auto crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway leaves five dead, eight injured
An accident happened on Monday at approximately 1:58 p.m. near the Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, resulting in the reports of five passengers killed and eight injured.
A Mercedes Benz vehicle without a number plate and a Mazda bus with the registration number EKY582 YE were involved in the deadly collision.
According to reports, the truck's tyre blew as it was moving, causing it to lose control and collide with the Mazda bus.
This was said in a statement made by Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesman for the Ogun State Sector Command.
The statement partly read, “The fatal crash occurred at about 1358 hrs on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Fidiwo.
A Mercedes Benz lorry with no registration number on it and a Mazda bus with registration number EKY582 YE were among the two involved cars.
“A total of 15 persons were involved (eight male adult and seven female adult). Eight persons were injured from the crash (five male adult and three female adult) while five persons were recorded death (four male adult and one female adult).
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were tyre bust, speed which led to lose of control on the part of the truck and crash with the bus while on motion.
“The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector, CC Anthony Uga, is pained by the unfortunate incident that claimed lives of five persons on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“He advised motorists to pay more attention on tyres and avoid the use of worn- out or expired tyresâ€.
