Awaited Pixel Watch may feature an old chipset
Google announced the highly anticipated Pixel Watch. We've been hearing rumours about the Pixel branded watch for the last 4 years and Google finally made it official at I/O 2022. The official launch is still months away and the specs of the watch are yet to be revealed. However, a report is circulating that reveals some interesting and also surprising information about the watch's processor. The report claims that the Pixel Clock will arrive with a 2018 Exynos processor.
9to5Google has learned from its sources that the Google Pixel watch will use Samsung's Exynos 9110 chip, which was first released 4 years ago. The chip debuted in 2018 with the Samsung Galaxy Watch.
The smartwatch was previously rumoured to be powered by the Samsung Exynos W920, the same processor that powers the Galaxy Watch 4. This would have given the Pixel watch an edge over its competitor, but it seems like Google decided to sabotage itself with a 4-year-old processor from a discontinued watch.
It's disappointing to know that the long-awaited Pixel watch might not end up with a top-of-the-line processor, but Google could counter that with the latest software improvements. The company has announced that the watch will run WearOS, which is expected to offer a faster and smoother experience under the fingers.
Additionally, the watch includes Fitbit technology that adds features like sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring. You can also see active zone minutes and track your progress against your personal fitness goals.
Google will be launching this watch as a flagship device, which means it will be priced in the higher range. Would you still go for it after knowing it may come with an outdated chipset? Let us know what you think in the comment section.
