In the early hours of Monday, gunmen launched a terror attack on the Matankari community in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing at least two natives and kidnapping around thirty people, mostly women.

The criminals invaded the community at midnight while it was raining, according to a community member who did not want his name printed for security reasons.

“The bandits were shooting sporadically when they invaded the village, and the villagers started running helter skelter for the protection of their lives,” he added.

He stated that Lawali of Matankari and Bashar, son of Ango, were the villagers slain during the operation.

“As of now, we have recorded 30 of our people; the majority of them were women abducted during the attack”

He further claims that the shooters fled into the nearby woodland after stealing a significant amount of animals and valuables from the settlement.

“Funeral prayers for the two deceased were held on Tuesday afternoon amid tears and grief from family members and community members”

The majority of the locals bemoaned the incident and expressed concern that the bandits might return for another terrible attack in the region. As a result, many families were forced to flee the hamlet, while others called for immediate security personnel to be sent to the axis.
