Bandits kill seven worshippers in Kaduna mosque
According to Sunday PUNCH, gunmen who broke into a mosque in Saya-Saya Village, Ikara Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Friday slaughtered seven worshippers.
According to information obtained by our journalist, the event took place when local Muslims were attending Isha'i (evening) prayers at a nearby mosque.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the thugs shot and killed five unidentified worshippers during the prayers, including a head of the vigilante group.
“Two other victims were killed by the bandits in other parts of the village,†a source told our correspondent on the telephone.
The village head of the community, Abdulrahman Yusuf, who confirmed the incident, said the head of the vigilantes in the village was among the victims killed inside the mosque.
Yusuf said the vigilante leader was trailed to the mosque where he and the other victims were shot and killed.
“We suspected they traced the vigilante leader to the mosque to attack him. We were inside the mosque praying when they arrived and started shooting. Five persons were killed in the mosque, while a driver who brought food items to the village, was also killed. The other person was killed at a nearby village,†he said.
Yusuf stated that after the attack, security in Ikara had been stepped up significantly.
Mansir Alhassan, the state's interim police public relations officer, confirmed the attack to our correspondent over the phone on Saturday.
He claimed that police officers had been dispatched to search the area's bushes for the sinister act's perpetrators.
