Bauchi lawmaker, Hon Wazam Mohammed passes away

Hon. Wanzam Mohammed Zaki, a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly who represented Sakwa Constituency, died early on Sunday in Bauchi following a brief illness.

Zaki chaired the House Committee on Budget and Appropriations until his passing.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman announced the death.

He characterized the late legislator as a dedicated public servant who did his utmost to serve the state and his constituency.

The statement read, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam.”

In the meantime, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed described the deceased as a devoted lawmaker, modest leader, and public servant whose life was marked by simplicity and commitment to the welfare of his constituents and the development of Bauchi State. 

The funeral prayer for the deceased was held on Sunday at 11:00 am at the Gwallaga Juma'at Mosque in Bauchi. The Speaker prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased's shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

The governor wrote in a condolence letter signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, that the politician stood out for his hard work, maturity, and patriotism, especially in his position as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriations.

He praised his involvement in the creation and management of programs and policies meant to enhance people's quality of life.
