Benue PDP suspends Ortom, other two

The Benue Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has suspended three members and former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, for suspected anti-party activities.

The decision to fire Chief Ortom came from the PDP's State Working Committee (SWC) meeting in Makurdi.

Alongside Ortom in suspension are Mr Isaac Mffor, the state deputy chairman of the PDP, and Mr Bemgba Iortyom, the state publicity secretary. Cornelius Hwande, the PDP's media consultant, made this claim in a statement on Monday.

According to Hwande, Ortom was suspended for endorsing the Labour Party's candidate in the 2023 election and for urging the Benue PDP to support the APC in the 2027 presidential contest.

He claimed that Azua Ashongo, the party's vice chairman for Zone A, had also been suspended due to severe indiscipline and insubordination.

According to Hwande, Mffor and Iortyom were suspended due to their involvement in the theft of Congress materials intended for the conduct of the ward congresses in Buruku and Ushongo local government areas, respectively, last Saturday.
