Benue State University suspends 200 to 600-level medical students
All 200- to 600-level medical students at Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, were suspended by the administration on Monday for a period of one month.
This is stated in an internal memo that has been verified by Mr. Tser Vanger, the university spokesperson, and signed by Dr. Mfaga Modom, the registrar.
In the memo, Dr. Modom stated that all College of Health Sciences medical students at the 200–600 level should begin a one-month suspension on October 30 at 8:00 a.m. and resume on Wednesday, November 29.
She stated that the school management had looked over the affected students' recent actions as well as reports from the appropriate authorities regarding their demonstration on October 25 before making this decision.
She added that the management was appalled by the students' obstinate behaviour prior to, during, and following the demonstration.
She declared that an inquiry committee would be established to examine the immediate and distant causes of the protest and offer recommendations as needed.
“A top Management Committee of the College of Health Sciences is hereby directed to implement the Resolutions of the Reports of the various committees on the students’ demonstration.
She issued a warning, saying that each student would need to bring a sworn affidavit attesting to good behaviour from a competent court of law when classes resumed. In addition, each student must bring a parent or guardian who will sign an undertaking.
“The Benue State University Medical Students Association (BESUMSA) has also been suspended with immediate effect till further notice,†she also said, warning the suspended medical students to immediately vacate their hostels on Monday, 30th October.
She said that the medical students at the 100-level are still engaged in their academic pursuits.
