Bolanle Raheem: Police arrest officer who shot Lagos lawyer dead

The police officer who shot lawyer Bolanle Raheem has been detained, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

According to reports, Raheem and her family were stopped as they were returning home after a Christmas Day church service by the unidentified police officer and his crew from the Ajah Police Station.

The gun-toting officer, according to The Guardian, shot the car as it attempted to turn around beneath the Ajah Bridge.

Bolanle apparently took a direct hit from the shooting and was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

On Boxing Day, police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin tweeted that the occurrence was unfortunate and avoidable.

He said that the officer who fired the shot and two others alongside him had since been arrested.

“They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.

“The Lagos State Police Command condoles with the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem.”

He stated that the family and the Nigerian Bar Association had been in contact with the commissioner of the Lagos police, CP Abiodun Alabi, "since yesterday, and he has provided unequivocal promises that justice will surely prevail."
