Boris Johnson, British Prime minister, to announce resignation soon
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce his resignation in hours as the number of exits from his party continues to mount.
According to British media, Mr Johnson has agreed to his resignation. More than 50 members of his cabinet have resigned since Tuesday.
Mr Johnson has faced severe public inspection over the Partygate scandal and more recently over Christopher Pincher, whom he appointed Chief Whip despite being aware of his wrongdoing.
Other issues that have sparked Mr Johnson's woes are the current economic plight of Britons.
Many of the resigning ministers cited a loss of confidence in the prime minister as the reason for their resignation.
There is speculation that Sajid Javid or Rishi Sunak will be next in line for the prime ministerial post.
According to Sky News, a spokesman for Number 10 said: "The Prime Minister will make a statement to the country today."
He said he would step down and a new leader of the Conservative Party is to be installed by October's party conference, a Downing Street source told Sky News.
