Bus crash in Chad leaves 20 dead
The authorities said on Friday that a passenger bus in Chad collided with a truck that was stranded on the road on Thursday night, killing twenty passengers.
The bus, which had 31 passengers on board, was traveling from N'Djamena, the country's capital, to Abeche, a city in the east. According to the government, it crashed close to the town of Oum-Hadjer.
"According to the first elements of the investigation, the causes identified are the non-respect of road safety rules... excessive speed, overloading, fatigue and carelessness of the driver," it said in a statement.
It came after two serious bus accidents in Senegal last month in which 60 people perished.
"We need to reinforce awareness to prevent the risk of accidents," said Chad's transport ministry.
