Bus crashes into petrol tanker, leaves one dead

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), its workers freed 12 accident victims who were trapped inside a commercial bus that had collided with a fuel tanker at the Otedola Bridge in Lagos.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, verified this.

Oreagba said that the driver of a commercial bus (KJA 364 YA) and an additional 12 passengers were trapped in the collision, which happened Tuesday at 5 p.m.

According to him, a preliminary inquiry showed that the bus's brakes failed when it was moving by Secretariat before Oando Filling Station inward Otedola Bridge, causing it to crash with a trailer.

One of the accident victims, according to Oreagba, passed away instantaneously, while the other victims were given to emergency responders who arrived at the accident scene.

However, the general manager issued a warning to motorists, particularly commercial bus drivers, advising them to always check the roadworthiness of their vehicles before setting out on any trip inside or beyond the state.
