CAN protests Plateau killings
On Monday, the Christian Association of Nigeria spearheaded a demonstration against the ongoing murders occurring in Plateau State and other regions of the nation.
According to police sources, ten suspects have been detained in relation to the gunmen's Christmas Eve massacre of more than 150 villagers in the state's Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
The protest tagged “Plateau Peace Walk,†was led by the state CAN chairman, Rev Polycarp Lubo; Evangelical Church Winning All President, Rev Stephen Panya; Church of Christ in Nations President, Rev. Amos Mohzo; Catholic Bishop of Jos, Most Rev. Mathew Audu; Methodist Bishop of Jos, Rev. Nkechi Nwosu; as well as the President, Gideon and Funmi-ParaMallam Peace Foundation, Rev. Gideon ParaMallam, among other prominent Christian leaders in the state.
All black, the demonstrators began their peaceful march at the PRTVC Roundabout in Jos at around 9:30 a.m., and proceeded to the Rayfield Government House, where they were greeted by high-ranking government officials, among them the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang.
In a protest letter he gave to the governor to be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu, Panya, the National Vice President of CAN and the state's Chairman of the Denominational Leaders Forum, expressed the displeasure of Plateau State's Christians over the ongoing attacks and killings in the state.
