Canadian PM Justin Trudeau separates from wife
On Wednesday, Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, disclosed the news of his separation from his spouse, Sophie Trudeau.
In a joint statement published on Wednesday to their official Instagram accounts, Trudeau and his spouse wrote that they had "many meaningful and difficult conversations" before deciding to part ways.
The prime minister wrote, “Hi everyone, Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.
“As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other for everything we have built and will continue to build.
“For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy. Thank you.â€
The office of the prime minister, following the news, said in a statement that the couple had signed a “legal separation agreement.â€
“They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward,†Trudeau’s office added.
The statement went on to say that the pair will remain visible to their kids and involved in their lives.
“Both parents will be a constant presence in their children’s lives and Canadians can expect to often see the family together.
“The family will be together on vacation, beginning next week,†the statement said.
Sophie, the prime minister, and I originally met in Montreal when we were kids. In 2003, we ran across one other again at a charity function. Three children, two sons and a daughter, were born to them after their 2005 marriage.
