Celestial church disowns pastor arrested with drugs in Lagos

The Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide has disassociated itself from Afolabi Hodonu, who and his spouse were recently detained by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency agents on suspicion of possessing illegal substances.

Hodonu and his spouse were detained by NDLEA agents on Thursday at the Gbaji checkpoint in Lagos, where 11 kg of skunk were purportedly found in concealed sections of their car.

Hodonu asserted that he was the Shepherd in charge of the Celestial Church of Christ at Agonvi Sea Beach in the Sakpo region of Badagry's Seme border.

Following a prior detention at the same checkpoint on Monday, March 30, when agents detained Sunday Samuel, 35, a fictitious security agent, as he was moving 24.5 kg of skunk from the Seme border to Lagos, the preacher and his spouse were arrested.

He continued by saying that the clergyman and his spouse were allegedly arrested as a result of the seizure investigations.

“The arrest of the couple followed the apprehension of a fake security agent, Sunday Samuel, 35, at the same checkpoint on Monday, 30th March, while conveying 24.5kg skunk from Seme border to Lagos.

The development was part of a series of operations conducted by the anti-narcotics agency across the country within the past week, ” Babafemi said.

In response on Sunday, the church's head of media and publicity, Kayode Ajala, stated that the clergyman and his spouse are not connected to the Ketu mainline of the Celestial Church of Christ, which is led by Reverend Emmanuel Oshoffa, according to administrative documents.
