Principal Executive Officer of Block, Jack Dorsey, to speak at Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana
As a keynote speaker, Jack Dorsey, chairman of Block and co-founder of Twitter, will appear at the inaugural Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, from December 5–7, 2022.
Co-founder of Twitter, Dorsey now leads Block, a group of fintech businesses that includes Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD. Block is a platform targeted at assisting small and medium-sized businesses accept online payments, therefore creating tools to make the economy more accessible to consumers and businesses.
Cash App has grown to be one of the most well-known and accessible Bitcoin exchange platforms in the United States. Bitcoin is also a significant component of Block's business.
Block spent $50 million on Bitcoin in the fourth quarter of 2020 and another $170 million in the first quarter of 2021.
Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter and current Chairman of Block, hasn't been shy about expressing his support for Bitcoin and his desire to see it become the default currency of the internet. According to Dorsey, who views Bitcoin to be the most significant project of his lifetime, Bitcoin has the potential to change the world. A new endowment named "B-trust" with a 500 BTC value was established in 2021 by Jack Dorsey and rapper Jay-Z to support the development of Bitcoin software in India and Africa.
The biggest Bitcoin conference to ever take place in Africa will feature roughly seventy additional speakers in addition to Dorsey. The Africa Bitcoin Conference was organised by Togolese human rights campaigner Farida Nabourema.
