Children killed, several injured in Ibadan funfair stampede
The terrible deaths caused by a stampede at a private children's funfair in Ibadan have been deeply regretted by the Oyo State Government. A number of youngsters were killed and numerous others were injured in the Wednesday morning incident at Basorun Islamic High School.
The government acknowledged the prompt dispatch of a fast reaction team to the scene in a statement sent by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation. For immediate medical attention, victims were taken to many hospitals located around Ibadan.
Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the Commissioner for Health, received praise for enlisting the help of every medical response team that was available to help control the situation. The administration promised to help the victims and their loved ones during this trying period.
Prince Oyelade stressed the significance of appropriate coordination and safety precautions for gatherings involving children and vulnerable groups and stated that the Oyo State Government was not engaged in the organisation or logistics of the private event.
The administration called for composure while the event is being investigated and offered its sincere sympathies to the impacted families.
